Research and academic institutions can use HRWeb to help manage their research production – and get quick and reliable 'near real-time' tables and graphs it can use to monitor, evaluate and communicate its performance and that of its main units or researchers. HRWeb also allows institutions to showcase their research outputs and capacities, demonstrate their relevance to national and regional health research priorities, and increase their visibility to research donors or collaborators from outside the country. Clearly, performance measurement of individuals is easy, using the HRWeb's 'research projects and publications' function.
Many institutions do not have a (health) research information system – or have one that is difficult to operate and usually not compatible with those of other institutions – even within the same country. HRWeb, gives access to a free* research management platform that is continuously updated and improved. In addition, using HRWeb. Even if an institution has a system that works for the institution, HRWeb may be an option to consider switching to or using in parallel. It is integrating global experiences as they are shared – ensuring access to the most up-to-date service. Secondly, a 'public domain, open source' approach is used, so the institution can develop its own routines and uses of HRWeb – which COHRED hopes the institution will share. And visibility in a global environment is key to attracting research grants and recruiting high quality staff.
Institutions have privileged access to three sections of HRWeb:
- their own institutional information in the 'key institutions' section including information on upcoming events and current initiatives;
- their own institutional listings of 'research projects and publications'; and
- their relevant resource documents within the “Resources” section. This section can also include key tools and good practices.
Even though only institutions can enter and change information here, any HRWeb user can comment on any of the information provided through the discussion functions.
The ability of institutions to upload and change their own information in these two sections is activated once the institution has an agreement with HRWeb.
