Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) that conduct research themselves can use HRWeb for managing their own research projects and programmes, allowing them to showcase their research outputs and capacities, demonstrate their relevance to national and regional health research priorities, and increase their visibility to research donors or collaborators from inside and outside the country in which they operate.
CSOs can also use HRWeb to influence national priority setting and to hold governments to account. If a country has a national agenda published on HRWeb, CSOs can comment on this, highlight research priorities that are well covered or that need more coverage, and in so doing influence debate in the country on the priority research areas and priority directions for the research system. If no research agenda has been set yet, CSOs can ask for a priority setting process to happen and can start by highlighting their priority areas, thus encouraging debate.
HRWeb also facilitates discussion among CSOs globally. It provides a platform where any registered CSO can engage in debate and discussion with peers around the world. Other users of HRWeb (government, academia, funders etc) can contribute to this debate, and share their viewpoints and experiences with CSO engagement in research for health.
CSOs have privileged access to three sections of HRWeb:
1. their own institutional information in the 'key institutions' section including information on upcoming events and current initiatives;
2. their own institutional listings of 'research projects and publications'; and
3. their relevant resource documents within the “Resources” section. This section can also include key tools and good practices.
Even though only CSOs can enter and change information here, any HRWeb user can comment on any of the information provided through the discussion functions.
The ability of CSOs to upload and change their own information in these two sections is activated once the CSO has an agreement with HRWeb.
